Is it just me, or does it feel like every time you go to the movie theatre the price of a ticket has gone up? The usual publicity vehicles- morning show interviews or great trailers- will hook me if I like the subject matter. But when I do the math on what the total bill will be- I am willing to wait and catch it on cable.
While curling up on the couch is nice- so is a date out of the house. Determined to find some money saving options for actually seeing a movie in a theater, I sat down with Julee Wilson, Staff Editor at Real Simple Magazine, to pick her brains.
If you need a night out too- why not try some of Julee’s tips:
1) Buy in Bulk: Head over to bulktix.com before you leave for the movie theater. This site allows you to buy your movie tickets in bulk and therefore save yourself $2-3 on each ticket. The site also offers discount vouchers on snacks!
2) Join Free Loyalty Clubs: Are you fast to decline any offer to sign up for a loyalty card? Well think again, in this instance Loyalty Cards can actually be a great way to save money. For example, Regal offers a free membership, which allows you to earn credits for each film you see. You can then use these credits to get free popcorn, soft drinks and even movie tickets.
3) Consider the Daytime: Ok so if you’re off on a romantic date maybe rocking up to the movie theater in the afternoon won’t quite set the mood as well as an evening showing, but matinee showings can cut the price of your ticket in half! So if you’re just desperate to see the current blockbuster or are enjoying a family movie trip why not head to a matinee showing? Warning- Matinees have become harder to come by- so shop around and remember not all early screenings are half price!
4) Cruise to the Drive-in: When weather permits there’s no greater way to see a movie than at the Drive-in. This super fun experience is also a considerably cheaper way of getting out and seeing a movie. Check out drive-ins.com to find out where your nearest drive-in is!
So get off the couch – embrace the smell of popcorn and allow yourself to laugh, cry, fall in love, or fear for you life for 90 minutes at the movies this weekend! Enjoy!
